As coaches specializing in motor preferences, one of our key inquiries is: What is our athlete's natural motricity? Is it terrestrial or Aerial? Understanding this is not just a curiosity, but a crucial step towards optimizing their performance.
This will lead coaches to adjust the address posture, aiming to enhance balance and overall coordination.
Terrestrial vs. Aerial:
Terrestrial golfers find their enhanced balance by having their center of balance backward. They preferentially engage their anterior muscle chain, resulting in more body angulation, increased knee flexion, a wider stance (But this can vary based on their natural rotation), and pressure at the address on the rear part of their feet, just under the ankle bone. This is how they will activate their nervous system. They are going to favor a lower center of gravity.
➡ Source of power: HIPS. At the start of the Downswing through Impact, they pull the core and pass the ground away. They love to feel stable through the swing motion.
On the other hand, Aerial golfers achieve their best balance by having their center of balance forward. They rely more on their posterior muscle chain, leading to a more continuous body posture, less knee flexion, a narrower stance, and pressure at address on the front part of their feet, closer to the balls. This is how they will activate their nervous system. They are going to favor a higher center of gravity.
➡ Source of power: SHOULDERS. In the initial phase of the downswing through impact, they generate a rebound effect by initiating the motion with a deliberate shoulder drop. They love to feel dynamic through the swing motion.
At Motor Preferences Experts, LLC, we follow Volodalen's approach that emphasizes the absence of right or wrong movements. Instead, we focus on unlocking individuals' natural movements to optimize performance. This approach instills a deep respect for athletes' inherent mobility, forming the foundation for enhancing their overall performance.
The nervous system is intricately designed to optimize our movements. Embrace and respect the golfer's natural motricity to unlock and develop the full potential. Perform in your preferences.
